Strengths Vision Casting 6 December 2014

Yet another successful talk on discovering your strengths based on Gallup’s StrengthsFinder assessment tool was organized on 6 December.

As in the previous two talks, participants were pleasantly surprised by the amount of practical knowledge that was imparted through the one-hour talk.

One of the participants commented: “The talk was good! The speaker (Kim Pong) was good in bringing out StrengthsFinder in a short session.”

StregnthsFinder is backed by more than forty years of robust research by scientists at Gallup. This tool has helped millions to discover their natural God-given talents and empower them to do what they love and what they do best everyday.

StrengthsFinder is build upon the philosophy that if we invest in our talents as opposed to just trying to correct our weaknesses, we can attain the level of greatness that we are meant to achieve. Read more here.

The first step to discover your talents through the StrengthsFinder tool is to take the assessment here.

One past young participant from one of our previous talks who took the assessment is Lee Yan. Here’s what she has to say:

10722467_662606340514027_346094261_o (1)The talk was interesting because it focused on discovering your talents and developing them to reach your fullest potential. This is unlike many other motivational talks where they would just find out about your strengths and weaknesses with minimum applications and follow through.

In schools and in society, we are being trained to improve on our weaknesses instead of building upon our talents. If you know your talents but do not build on them, they will be wasted. But if you do not even understand yourself or know your talents, you are wasting your time and by the time you realized it, you could have wasted a large part of your life!

I like this quote from Donald O. Clifton, co-author of Now, Discover Your Strengths:

“From this point of view, to avoid your strengths and to focus on your weaknesses isn’t a sign of diligent humility. It is almost irresponsible. By contrast the most responsible, the most challenging, and, in the sense of being true to yourself, the most honorable thing to do is face up to the strength potential inherent in your talents and then find ways to realize it”

After taking the assessment I was surprised by the order of my strengths:
1) Adaptability 2) Empathy 3) Connectedness 4) Individualization 5) Deliberative

“Adaptability” was the talent that I knew I had in me but I did not expect it to be ranked the first. In fact, I thought “Deliberative” was my top ranked talent because I am always vigilant in whatever decision I made, which my friends also agreed.

“Empathy” was the talent that I quite agree with because whenever my friends shared with me their story, I could put myself in their shoes and related to how they felt.

As for the talent ” Connectedness “, I enjoy bringing people together therefore whenever there is gathering I would almost always be the organizer.

To me, everyone is unique in their own ways therefore when I realized “Individualization” is one of my talents, I was not surprised at all.

After taking the assessment I felt that I understood myself better and it definitely strengthened my self-confidence.
